About Karen

Biography

Karen E. Giunta, founder of Transitions and New Beginnings (R), is a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 30 years of experience in behavior modification.  Karen walks alongside her clients, providing guidance with empathy, care and compassion, as they work together to build or rebuild relationships that are healthy, connected and lasting. Karen has helped many clients heal from traumatizing broken bonds resulting from infidelity, childhood issues, and other life challenging experiences. 

Providing Self of Therapist mentoring to EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and non-EFT colleagues, Karen assists colleagues individually and in small groups to better understand their own experiences as therapists, leaning into successes and struggles in their work.  She is a frequent presenter and workshop facilitator on subjects such as Self of the Therapist, Shame Resilience and Emotionally Focused Therapy. 

Karen's passion is to help her clients and colleagues heal and grow into their truest, most whole selves, as they build a relationship within themselves, and with others in their lives.

Karen holds a master's degree in marriage and family therapy and a master's degree in physical education, exercise science specialty.  She is a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Supervisor, an AAMFT Supervisor Candidate, A Daring Way Facilitator-Candidate, and an EMDR Level 1 & 2 trained psychotherapist.  Karen is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a professional member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and is a Board Member for the Connecticut Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a Board Member for the New York Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy.  As an active member of the growing EFT community, Karen plays an instrumental function in the development and training of therapists in Connecticut, Arkansas, and Louisiana.  

Karen provides EFT Consultation to many clinicians and students in an individual or group setting.  She was recently an adjunct professor for the Psychology Department at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT, for over 5 years, and is asked to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level periodically at universities in the New York tri-state area.
