Welcome to a New Year!

I have often heard that days can be long, while years are short.  And each January, I reflect on how true that seems!  How did we get here already, another January?!

For 2019, I am very excited to update this blog, now a place for both clients and colleagues to reflect and explore!

Welcome to Tidbits and To-Do’s ~ a monthly post with Tidbits of information about human nature or concepts, followed by a thought-provoking To-Do.  I hope you will feel encouraged to reflect on and enhance your life in 2019 in some small way.  Enjoy!

Suggestion – journal your reflections each month.  Observe how your thoughts evolve over the course of the year.  For more personal ideas on these or other life experiences, please feel free to contact me via email (kgiuntalmft@gmail.com) or text (203-856-9555) to schedule a consultant by phone, video or in-person.

Here’s to a wonderful 2019!

January 2019 Tidbit:
  • The “JUST DO IT” campaign for Nike was coined in 1988, and remains a tremendous success for the company.  Additionally, many individuals have greatly benefited from this slogan.  So, what does it take to “JUST DO IT”?

January 2019 To-Do:
  • Consider a personal desire (i.e., lose weight, get fit), professional dream (i.e., start a business, get a new job), or perhaps hopes for a relationship (i.e., meet someone, improve your marriage).  As you think about achieving one of these in 2019, consider what happens to you.  Reflect on these questions in your journal:
    • What meaning do you put to your goal? (i.e., I will be successful. I am loved.)
    • What do you start thinking regarding accomplishing the goal? (i.e., I can do this. I don't know how to start.)
    • What do you start to feel? (i.e., Excited and hopeful for a new start. Hesitant and unsure, having tried year after year.)
    • How do you behave? (i.e., Excited, you move in and start to plan.  Cautious, you put it off and procrastinate.)
The meanings we put to goals, as well as the thoughts, feelings and behaviors associated with accomplishing them, are all interdependent.  They will always make sense when put into context of our life, and contribute to the success or barrier to “Just Do It”.  It's a little more than simply "Just Do It!".  Understanding the underlying meaning and experiences will help us ... do it!

As always, I invite your conversation here, or privately.  Please let me know how I might help you achieve all you hope for in 2019!
